Li Youmei, female, Han ethnicity, born in January 1957 in Jiangsu Province. She joined the Communist Party of China in December 1975. She is a doctor, professor and PhD candidate supervisor. She began work in November 1973 and is now Chairman of the Chinese Sociological Association, and former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai University .

She serves as member of the Policy Consultative Committee of Shanghai Municipality, Vice president of the Chinese Sociological Association, Vice Chairperson of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations and President of Shanghai Sociological Association. Her main research fields include theories and policy analysis of Sociology of organization and innovation of the human cooperation mechanism in developed industrial and social transition. Her main subjects in recent five years include A Study of Farmers in Development of Pudong New Area (Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Project, conferred the Second Prize for Excellent Paper of the Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Award), A Study of Farmers on the Frontier of China’s Economic Development (leading researcher of the National Philosophy and Social Science Project), A Study of the Organization and System Transition in China’s Urbanization Process (leading researcher of the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences (Sociology) of Peking University under the Ministry of Education), Local Culture Transition in Rapid Urbanization Process (leading researcher of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Project), Research on Innovation of the Important Thought of ‘Three Represents’ and Sociological Theories (leading researcher of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Project), A Study of Several Issues of Shanghai Municipality on Implementing the Decisions of Central Government and Strengthening the Construction of Ruling Ability (leading researcher of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Project), A Study of Building a  Harmonious Society of Socialism (chief expert and leading researcher of Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Projects), A Study of the Construction of the Social Coordination Mechanism in the New Period (leading researcher of the National Philosophy and Social Science Project), and A Study of Social Organization Construction in the New Period (leading researcher of a major project of the Ministry of Education). 

She has been awarded many honors and titles, including Shanghai and National Models of Advanced Female Workers, the 2nd Excellent University Young Teacher Award by Ministry of Education, Top 10 Outstanding Working Women in Shanghai, Woman Pace-setter of Shanghai, Famous University Teacher Prize of Shanghai, and Leading Talent of Shanghai. In 2006, she was awarded the French Palm Knight Medal.
